Cuban Missile Crisis
One of the most important events during the Cold War was the Cuban Missile Crisis. It all began July 1959 in Cuba. When a revolution led by Fidel Castro force the Cuban government and their leader Fulgencio Batista to flee the country. Castro action that will upset the U.S was Cuba becoming communist. The U.S responds to this action was not to buy any raw materials and sugar from Cuba. This is when the United States made a mistakable decision.
This decision would be the Bay of Pigs invasion. This invasion was the U.S. vs. the Cubans to overthrow Castro from power. The United States surrendered with less than 24 hours of fighting. In July of 1962 the Russian leader Nikita Khrushchev wanted to place nuclear missiles within Cuba. The U.S. will find out by sending U2 spy planes into Cuba. The United States reaction to this event would be sending a blockade of ships to Cuba. This is when the U.S. and Soviet Union would face each other by brinkmanship. With the world finding out they feared that there will be war by nuclear arms. Weeks will pass when Kennedy and Khrushchev will come to a conclusion that U.S. will pull out weapons in Greece and Turkey and the Soviet Union will stop in Cuba.
