Overview and Causes
Throughout history, there has always been war. During the 1940's to the 1960's the most famous one is the Cold War. The Cold War was fought between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. This all happened when the U.S. and the Soviets began to unravel during WWII. These two were separating because they feared each other and they had major difference in government. These differences began during the Yalta conference. The Yalta conference consisted of war strategies and post war ideas. These decision were decided by Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin. The Final conference that made the difference was the Potsdam conference. Which Churchill, Stalin and Harry Truman made decision about the end of WWII.
After WWII, the United States and the Soviet Union had many postwar goals. For the United States they wanted to form new alliances called the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). They also wanted to build up there military bases and create more democratic governments. The Soviet Union wanted to rebuild their nation, form new alliances, improve living conditions and dominate the world.
Between the two countries, there was many ideological differences. The U.S. was a Capitalism/Democracy government, which they believed in survival of the fittest, class society, competition, luxury items and people control. The Soviets Union was a Communistic state, which they believed in a classless society, cooperation, no luxury item and that the government controlled. This all lead up to the starting of the cold war.

These countries were called the satellite nation, which consisted of Czechoslovakia, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and East Germany. Know to the U.S. these nations were called the iron curtain because they were isolated and secretive. To stop the spread of communism the U.S. put the policy containment in action by the Truman doctrine and the Marshall plan.
